Daily Quote with Push Notification

One authentic Krishnamurti quote / passage delivered each day at a user-selected time. Accessible via push notification or by opening the app directly. Pre-programmed promotional content beneath the quote every 2 weeks.

Ultra-Minimalist Onboarding

Four-step flow: welcome, enable notifications, set delivery time, optional newsletter signup. No account creation required.

Three tabs: Today (daily quote), Bookmarks (saved quotes), More options (change notification time, newsletter signup, events etc).

Bookmark & Share

Save quotes for later from the home screen. Share any quote via the native share sheet — WhatsApp, Instagram, email, or any installed app.

Quote Archive

Browse all previously received daily quotes in reverse chronological order. Each entry shows the day number, date, truncated excerpt, and source — with the option to bookmark or share any past quote. Accessible from the "More" tab.

A full-screen "More" tab with four items: Quote Archive, Events (external link to news section of website), Newsletter signup, and Notification time picker.

Typography, colour palette, and aesthetic aligned with kfoundation.org. Black on white. Serif italic for quotes.

Audio Narration

Each quote can be listened to via a dedicated audio player. Words highlight progressively as they are spoken. Playback can continue in the background while the user navigates the app, with a slim mini-player above the tab bar for inline control. Available from the Today, Bookmarks, and Archive screens.

Offline Audio

Audio files can be downloaded to device storage for offline playback. A download icon in the Audio Player cycles through three states: not downloaded, downloading, and saved. A dot badge on the headphones icon indicates offline availability across Today, Bookmarks, and Archive. Downloaded files are managed from More → Downloaded Audio, where individual episodes or all downloads can be removed to reclaim storage.

04 — Technical Notes

Platform

React Native (Expo) — single codebase for iOS and Android. No web app planned.

Navigation

Expo Router with bottom tab navigator. Three tabs: Today, Bookmarks, More. Onboarding runs as a separate Stack screen outside the tab group.

Push Notifications

Local scheduled notifications (no server required). User sets delivery time during onboarding. Changeable from the "More" screen.

4

Typography

'Marcellus' (licence, if required, to be provided by the client). Colour: #000 on #FFF.

Data

365 authentic quotes, sourced from kfoundation.org. Bookmarks stored locally on device. No user accounts or backend.

Newsletter

Email collected and submitted to KFT's existing newsletter subscription endpoint. Accessible during onboarding and via the "More" screen.

Promotional Content

Pre-programmed content block appearing beneath the daily quote every 15 days. Consists of a full-width block image, descriptive text, and a "Learn More" CTA. Scheduled in the content calendar; requires no user interaction to trigger.

Offline Audio Storage

Audio files downloaded to app-managed local storage using expo-file-system. Download state (not downloaded / downloading / downloaded / failed) tracked in AsyncStorage. Downloaded files playable without a network connection via expo-av. Storage usage surfaced in the Downloaded Audio screen; individual or bulk removal clears files and updates stored state.
